AG Next LLC is a new boutique consultancy launched to help "emerging growth businesses" defined as early-stage growth and mid-sized businesses (up to a $1 billion in revenues) achieve commercial success. Realigning strategy and operations leads to renewed growth and excitement to fuel transformative change. We led over 800 employees across 13 offices in 10 countries to record breaking revenue and profitability growth by transforming go-to-market approaches, restructuring the team and aligning incentives to drive performance. This multi-year transformation of an international region of a publicly traded company achieved 50% revenue growth and more than doubled profits.
Innovation fuels growth. In today’s rapidly changing business environment if you're not changing you are falling behind. We launched new service offerings which grew into a profitable +$200 million business. We identified the market opportunity, designed the business blueprint and oversaw the creation of new and enhanced service capabilities that leveraged existing client relationships to capture a greater share of client spending. This multi-year effort included training and coaching existing team members.
The right acquisitions accelerate growth and complement organic strategies. We oversaw the acquisition of a $30 million B2B services business. We developed the acquisition strategy, deal thesis and led commercial due diligence. Created post-acquisition integration framework to guide integration planning and execution including critical change management activities. As part of this initiative designed and produced an Acquisition Playbook to standardize and institutionalize internal best practices for use on future acquisitions ensuring repeatability, productivity and scalability.
It’s hard to get to the destination if you don’t know where it is. Having a clear written plan is essential because it defines the end-in-mind, enables consensus to be reached and guides execution. We developed a strategic roadmap to direct and guide a +$500 million company to improved performance. The company had experienced stalled growth and was eager to reinvigorate performance. The Strategic Roadmap defined key priorities, identified interdependencies, assigned responsibilities and communicated direction to stakeholders providing the needed framework to achieve common objectives.
Innovation and investment discipline drive commercial success. Agility is key to quickly spotting market gaps and opportunities. Having the right process to vet and fund the right projects to essential for future growth. We established a Strategy & Innovation function for a +$500 million company to guide and direct critical investment funds to high-potential opportunities. We launched an investment committee and business case process to balance organizational agility with investment rigor to optimize the portfolio of investments.
Execution is critical to success. Maintaining effective sales motion requires discipline, focus and flawless execution. We transformed the go-to-market sales approach for a B2B services company by increasing focus on better lead qualification and more comprehensive solution development improving the quality of the sales pipeline, increasing the “real” opportunities, and improving deal velocity. The new approach positioned the sales team as problem solvers and trusted advisors.
Mergers and acquisitions can accelerate growth when conducted properly. The deal process can be fluid and for the occasional buyer this increases risk. We created an M&A Playbook for a small-cap company that was making M&A a center-piece of its growth strategy. The playbook defines a consistent and repeatable deal cycle that improves target evaluation, strategic fit analysis, risk management, business case, integration planning and synergy realization. It produces a knowledge base and tool repository to guide future deal teams ensuring improved outcomes – clear target identification, aligned deal thesis, achievable deal synergies and comprehensive plan to realize benefits.
Advisory Boards provide an outside-in perspective fueling innovation and growth. Working for an early-stage company we developed the advisory board charter and framework, recruited key members and supported its launch. The new advisory board has made a meaningful contribution from the start by highlighting critical go-to-market and product improvement opportunities.
Smart incentives drive desired performance and increase employee satisfaction. We led the design and implementation of a new incentive compensation plan impacting over 200 employees. The revised incentive plan better aligned desired outcomes with behaviors improving performance and employee engagement.
The right KPIs can supercharge performance by providing timely feedback that enables agility, organizational learning and improved performance. We revised KPIs for a B2B field sales force of 150 sales executives to redirect activities, highlight accountability and provide needed performance feedback. The existing KPI dashboard provided information on sales activities and sales funnel but was over-indexed on measuring quantity of outreaches with no measures reporting on quality or effectiveness of the sales activities. This drove sub-optimal sales behaviors like blast mass emails that prospects ignored or worse complained about getting spammed. The improved Sales KPIs provided a more balanced set of measures reporting on volume of activity (e.g., # of outreaches, # of sales calls, etc.) and quality of effort (e.g., close ratio to meetings, average sale $, etc.). The new KPIs provide the sales team with the feedback to better self-assess performance, redirect behaviors, and enable more timely coaching and interventions by sales management resulting in improved sales outcomes.
